who is the artist?
Let me tell you a little bit about myself, Maria Gutierrez is someone passionate about imagination and creativity, inspired to create this space in the sensitivity and emotions of the being, cultures, places, bodies, books, nature and of course, the art itself. Since I was a kid, I was always excited about everything related to painting, dance, theater, sports and any activity that involved my physical and verbal expression, but above all, anything that made my imagination fly. However; at school, I end up being pretty good at math, which blurred my idea of pursuing a career in arts and motivated me to follow a more conservative career.
I was born and raised in Colombia for my first 17 years; Then, for the next 18 years, I lived in different countries, England, Spain, Panama and the United States. Hence my personality! I consider myself a flexible person, with no ties, very emotional, open-minded and as incredible as it sounds I also consider myself fearful of taking risks.
My Professional career
I graduated from Industrial Engineering in 2012 and finished my Master in Business Administration in 2018. I also worked 10 years for the corporate world, first for my family business in Colombia and then, for a multinational in Panama City. However, after those great experiences, a couple of mind-blowing books and all of the learnings that COVID-19 left us; I decided to take responsibility of my gift and give my life a different meaning. This is why, in 2023, I fully jumped into the art world; the most passionate, vulnerable and subjective of them all.
During my life I have painted on and off in different type of materials, like wood, ceramic, fabric, etc. and I have also tried many mediums like acrylic, waters color, pastels and oil, personally my favorite one. In the past, every reason to paint wasn't more than the desire to create something meaningful and special for people I love.
Today and for the next few years, my goal is to continue studying oil painting more intensely to develop my own technique and present to you art pieces that equally inspire you and illuminate any space that surrounds you.
My first collection: "EXPLORATION 2023"
This collection was an exploration of oil on canvas, applied to portraits and abstract landscaping. During this process I had the opportunity to work on different techniques and styles such as making my first “alla prima” with a spatula, obtaining results with a lot of texture and volume, and on the other hand, “layered paintings” with a brush, to achieve semi-realistic results. This first project brings with it many beautiful emotions, each piece involves a deep reflection to achieve something unique that connects with you and me.
